The Pi Theta Lambda Education Foundation, Incorporated (PTLEF) anticipates awarding multiple one thousand-dollar ($1000.00) scholarships for eligible students to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited institution of higher learning. The scholarship award is based on one’s display of high scholastic achievement, participation in community-/service-based activities and a demonstrated ability toward leadership.
The Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Texas; serving the greater Bexar County area. The Foundation was established in 1992 by members of Pi Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha, which was founded in 1906, is the Fraternity of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who expressed that “Education without social action is a one-sided value because it has no true power potential. ”
The Foundation supports the cause of educating our youth. The academic thrust behind the Foundation’s DREAM MAJOR© Scholarship Program is aligned with the “Go to High School, Go to College” model initiated by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Foundation raises funds for the DREAM MAJOR© Scholarship Program by sponsoring the DREAM MAJOR© Gala. Proceeds collected from the DREAM MAJOR© Gala benefits our scholarship program, culminating with the Foundation disbursing scholarships to Bexar County high school graduates, who matriculates to accredited post-secondary institutions across this nation.
To date, the Foundation has disbursed over $74,000 to defray the ever-rising costs of attending college. Over the past 7 years, the Foundation has disbursed $39,000 to over a two dozen DREAM MAJOR© Scholars, as well as, an annual contribution to the City of San Antonio MLK Jr. Scholarship Fund.
